In God’s Time by Rev. Monique McBride
In God’s time
It’s what we say while we wait
When God should be there
And just isn’t
When God should be
Fixing, healing, helping
And instead feels completely distant
When a miracle would be nice
When a cure is needed
When divine intervention
Seems like the thing to do
When a big obvious blockbuster miracle
Complete with soundtrack and popcorn
Should
Come in and save the day
When waiting just means
More pain
More suffering
When faith is hardest to keep
We ask in earnest
Where did you go, God?
Have you left us?
Are you not listening?
Is this your will?
We are tired of waiting
Of being patient
Of being hopeful
We need for God’s time
To come now
…
And then we pick up the scriptures
And read the words of Philip
Wanting and needing a win
A beautiful
and I say tear-filled exchange between friends
And Jesus in his gentle yet stern way
Reminds him
Hey
I’m here
I’ve been here
I didn’t leave you
Don’t you know me?
If you do, you know God
And even though I’m going
I am not leaving you alone
It may not be what you want
When you want
But God is working
God is healing
And remember
God works in you too
So, keep the commandments
Have faith
This is God’s time
Right now
Amen
