Hidden Cross Hunt & Prayer Walk for Families

April 10, 2020

A “hidden cross” in our herb garden fence

Hidden Cross Hunt & Prayer Walk: An Activity for Families

For most of us who serve churches, our programming looks very different this year in the midst of social distancing. I created this hidden cross hunt and prayer walk for children and families at my church.

Directions:

-Go on a walk in your neighborhood.  Bring a phone or iPad to take pictures.

-While on your walk, find 12 “hidden crosses.”  These are “crosses” that show up in the patterns of a fence, concrete, etc.

– Read the provided prayers as you find each cross.

Prayers for Your Hidden Cross Prayer Walk

Cross 1: Dear Jesus, thank you for loving us. Help us to love others like you do.

Cross 2: Help us to have faith and be brave even when we’re scared.

Cross 3: Remind us to be patient with others and with ourselves.

Cross 4: Help us to be aware of the needs of others and help when we can.

Cross 5: Remind us to care for the poor and the sick as you showed us.

Cross 6: Remind us that having faith is not always easy.  But, it is always right.

Cross 7: Help us to remember that all we have is a gift from you.

Cross 8: Remind us to share what we have so that everyone has enough.

Cross 9: Guide us to love and honor every person as you love all people.

Cross 10: Remind us to stand up for others in acts of justice and fairness.

Cross 11: Help us always to be on the lookout for signs of your love.

Cross 12: Hear our words as we pray the prayer you taught us

Recite The Lord’s Prayer together.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us                                                And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
